The world spins madly on, by the weepies is one of the best emotional multi-art collaborative pieces i have seen in a while! They are a folk duo that hit numero uno in itunes a few years ago, and I really feel this is one of the best video to musics i've ever seen : ) warms the heart, yet truly causes introspection about ones relationships.
Kanye West - My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
Belle and Sebastian - Write About Love
Guster - Easy Wonderful
Broken Bells - Broken Bells
Rooney - Eureka
Cee-Lo Green - The Lady Killer
OK Go - Of the Blue Colour of the Sky
Great music listened to in 2010 but was released beforehand:
Discovery - LP (2009)
Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros - Up From Below (2009)
Things are looking good for the debut: http://fernrocks.files.wordpress.com/2010/03/tron-guy.jpg
I'm really excited about the release of this movie because it is soundtracked by one of my favorite groups of all time: DAFT PUNK. Around the world was the first techno song i ever really listened to, and it blew my mind at the ripe age of 12 that they were actually saying "around the world" in that silly little voice. Anyways, the news at hand is that they have released 21 beautiful minutes (And then, i got in) Pun intended!
I can't help it!!! its too good of a song to not go into the running: just set it and forget it! its too fun. Albeit also not the newest (aka memory-free-associated song), its epicness is worthy of our upcoming vegas trip!
And kieng mentioned this might be a fun new one.. the chorus is hot, so lift up yo glass!
Be my butterfly! I'm a ninja, straight out of the heartland of South Efrica comes the newest version of Eminem since Dr. Dreidel! (happy chan tomo). Die Antwoord means "The answer" in africaans. This vid is creepy, the song is fun!
I saw this band live, and they were so fun. They had the best fans, they did crazy stuff like make the whole audience sit and then came out and played an acoustic version of this song.... the funness has contagious potential : )
Although its not a coloring book (see below), I can't believe we don't have this on record. Albeit a bit behind the times, for nostalgic sake (no pun intended), we need to have this on our site due to our love for Arcade Fire AND google maps (is the best, double true!)
Songs of the weekend are important, and its impossible to make each song as epic our first Electric Feel (me up). To add fuel to the fire of a failed attempt, because lets face it, we can't all come back from a second chance without beating the competition (pun!), Chris Brown has been accused of heresy, and copyright infringement by none other than and unknown artist called Calvin Harris who "choked on his cornflakes when he heard Chris Brown's Yeah 3x"
Au Revoir Simone (which I think means "Goodbye Governor" in French) is a band that knows what I like, and what I like is coloring books.
Their new video for "Knight of Wands" lets you play along with the song, but not with an instrument. I suggest you click here and color the cat a few times!
Au Revoir vs. Postal Service (because who doesn't like battling the mailman?)
Twas a great day, but they all can't be this good.
To the bad days - in advance - I just want to say Forget Yoooou. Forget Yoooou! Thanks Cee-Lo. Now for some hip to the hip-hop (I know hips, because my mom has had four of them) for those who need a little get me up!
The Holidays sound a bit like the Temper Trap after starting off with some delightful Guster-esque bum bum bums on the drum drum drums. Which reminds me, Guster. I should really be listening to some Guster.
Now I have been a big fan of Andy McKee for quite some time, but I have just started listening to this type of melodic guitar amazingness again after discovering a little goodness from my old friend visiting from Brazil. He and i once tried our hand at a talent show, and I wish he was still around to jam, because he has started playing stuff like this. *Increible* (spanish or italian accent)
And make sure you stick around at least till 1:50... I love it!
And the original inspiration to this type of music: Not the furious Tokyo variety (see what I did there?)
And a classic guitar piece that is sure to woo all the ladies, last and not least...
I love instrumental songs that are so melodic, story filled that you can't believe in hindsight that they didn't have lyrics!
Fight From Above is showing off some of the great fun of the streets of LA downtown, east sideish near the LA Times building. Although going to the worst school in LA, they seem to be able to bring out some of the fun while drinking and rocking, something I think we all identify with.
Next funness up is a little awesome band called Neon Trees. There hit song "Animal" has definitely got a strong hook in my head that i love to sing.
Neon Trees might be the best group to come out of Provo since BYU! But getting its roots in California makes this post Western-tastic. They got there start with The Killers which kind of helps me place them between The Strokes and something a little post-emo (the happy kind) like maybe taking back sunday? I don't know about that one... help me help you tell me what they sound like : )
I have been a fan of this mashup for quite sometime now, and I need to share it. A similar mix of every step was played at a wedding I attended last week, and it made me want to learn even more how to mix and match great songs together! As inspiration, I will post this to let the record officially show that one day I will make a mix that will be a delectable combination as experienced in this video:
Besides having the best birthday around (12/1/85), Janelle Monae makes pretty good music. Here is some of it... Make the Bus (featuring Of Montreal): Any song featuring Of Montreal is probably going to be pretty bitching. It tickles my pickle that they have a few songs together and now they are touring together. Lovers fo' sho! Janelle Monae featuring of Montreal – Make The Bus by Hypetrak
Tightrope: Definitely sounds like an Outkast track (maybe half of that is due to Big Boi being on the song), which is a great thing. Although the track makes me wanna dance, which is very dangerous if you are on a tightrope. Janelle Monae - Tightrope by agblends
Wondaland ("gotta get back to wondaland, i think me left me underpants" whooooey!) and others: Janelle Monae by MisEpiphany
Ah, so there we are. This nice little gem of a band has just enough soul and folk to make me jig in my pants! I have enjoyed their album, and would recommend it to our entire fan base of this blog. There is so many fun songs I need to share. So stay tuned! I have just been working like 5 days a week, who does that?
And to add some visual stimulation
For those who haven't seen it, talk about a trip down memory lane! I just got the new arcade album, i heard great things so far. See you soon!
What a fantastical, lovely ding dong of a song this is. I saw this band at Lollapalooza and this was the final tune they played. The singer came out wearing a Lady Gaga-inspired sequined brassiere and tore off his pants to display some nice Gaga-spankies halfway through the song.
In other news, "Skybox" has become synonymous with puking because my sister wanted to throw up all morning. Instead, we danced around! Way better than yaking.
Below is a remix by Hood Internet, which is also pretty great. Makes me want to go outside and run a marathon and then stop after 3 minutes once this song is over!
Lollapalooza is already off to a great start in surpassing the greatness of Coachella: it isn't in the desert and it released its schedule today, giving me many more days to plan it like Earth (planet!) while Coachella usually gives me two and a half.
Friday Fun Fight!
1. Semi Precious Weapons, 4:15 - 5:00 on BMI (4th northernmost stage) - Best Song: Put a Diamond In It. Opening for Lady Gaga, so they must be... interesting. Bandmember Justin Tranter was a coach on the MTV show MADE and has his own jewelry line called "Fetty". This group seems interesting and antics would surely ensue.
2. The New Pornographers, 4:00 - 5:00 on Budweiser (1st northernmost stage) - Best Songs: tons. Distractingly ugly lead singer but a large band so fun on stage, because something is always happening. Some guy plays the hooka piano! Your Hands (Together) - The New Pornographers by deadpoetshonour
3. Devo, 4:00 - 5:00 on South (8th / least northernmost stage) - Best Songs: Whip It, Satisfaction, Watch Us Work It, Working in a Coalmine. Were on Yo Gabba Gabba, and people who have met them say the band is either out of their minds or very good at pretending they are. This point is illustrated very well by Devo’s live show, featuring cheesy songs supported by cheesy visuals and, of course, chedderey hats.
Now I hate to brag, but I made a prettttty sweet 90's mix about 6 years ago that still holds a candle to Betty White. That made sense. But I forgot about this song, and I got to say for a pop-rock i like the lyrics a lot. Clever is the new Snickers commercial during half-time, thats what I always am going to start saying. (And "Spring Break" everytime something awesome happens).
Now kicking back to awesome 90's songs really deserves a shout out to Say What Karaoke... Was it really this long ago?
Happy Shlappy! My first review has really made the time tested awesome test... its in my head and i can't help it. Janelle is beautiful on the inside and has awesome shoes for tightropping. I love that they throw in a little Outkast flavor with Big Boi (and was that Andre 3000 I see walking by circa 4:23?). So whether you're high or low, this song is bound to make you want to get on the tightrope. Solid hook, catchy rhythms, beautiful singing makes a perfect saturday song post.
Another song that I have been happy to have floating around my membranes is by the Silversun Pickups: Substitution. I didn't realize i had heard this band on the radio already, but it made me yearn for my nostalgic affinity to emo music (Brand New "The Quiet Things No One Ever Knows", Taking Back Sunday "Cute without the "E" (Cut from the Team)", Saves the Day - pretty much the whole "Stay What You Are" album, and more recently the surprising fun snowboarding I had on the slopes with Boys Like Girls - "The Great Escape"). I have included the Silversun's popular tracks for your further enjoyment: Silversun Pickups - Lazy Eye by mandysilversunmusic Silversun Pickups - Panic Switch by mandysilversunmusic (Turns out its a boy singing, who knew?!) Kinda has the Garbage thing going one, riiiiiiight? And finally, a truly amazing music video that I didn't give the full credit it was due when I first was shown it several months ago... I'm glad its back in my life!
Twin Sister's "Ribbon Bow" and "All Around and Away We Go"
Feeling like floating in space a bit while smiling? Okay, Buzz Aldrin, here's the song for you: All Around and Away We Go. Some soft female vocals massage your ear-knuckles real nice and gently (ear-knuckles = ?? but I was going to say "earballs"...). Ribbon Bow is extremely catchy with its horns and dingalings. Oh, be right back, gotta go float away with some smiles again. Lesson: Twofer Tuesdays are awesome, because it gives us TWO Twin Sister songs. If you like this, you may also like: High-fiving strangers, some Cornershop songs, jj, love-making with your luvah, Taken By Trees, Beach House. 'Propriate Playlists: EasyListening - Upbeat
I am a cat owner, so I feel - despite domestication - I am the caretaker of a Miniature Tiger. The band, by that name, is way cooler than most cats (not mine though. Suck it, other cat owners!) playing poppy, upbeat, fantestical indie smileys. That was a bunch of words that mean little. Let's get to the music!
Cannibal Queen - la la la la love you cannibal queen! I do not support cannibalism, but I do support fun songs, so there. Miniature Tiger - Cannibal Queen by ILL FIT
Also check out "The Wolf" for another delightful tune.
Every now and then I hit a song that I insta-know I am going to love. Usually the songs I like take about 5 listens to solidify its goldeness, but this song was an easy 2! Now since this is my first post, i'd like to introduce myself a bit. I am not a lyrics guy as much as I am sounds (especially rhythms)! So if a song has amazing lyrics, I probably to get to that until my 12th listen through.
My first topic of the day is going to be about The XX: Islands
I love songs that make me feel like I'm running through a forest, like I am lost and happy and nothing else matters kind of running. (my first realization of this feeling came from The Cure: Close to me (LP Version) The Cure - Close To Me by rebobine ). The key part for me in the XX is circa 54 seconds, the hook is hot, and I am a sucker for good hooks. I love how the drums knock out, beautiful girl singing (Romy Madley Croft) which is reminiscent to Postal Service guest star Jen Woods on "Nothing Better".
And because I can't resist one of my other latest favorites: O.N.E. by Yeasayer.
Talk about a happy song! I get sucked in like 57 seconds in... the bass kicks the perfect amount... many fun electronic sounds entice me to bob my head involuntarily and let me just keep living the dream. Like I said, I'm not sure what the lyrics are, but it must be about living the dream in someway. Also check out Ambling Alp... one of Eric's favorite yeasongs.
and also I have to share this awesome acrobatics i just saw, really amazing!
Forgot about this band... a fun gem from a few years younder. Released in 2006, Junior Boys were one of those bedroom beat bands (triple alliteration!) that almost didn't make it... I liken them to a hellogoodbye meets the knife. Junior Boys - In The Morning by AntiRebel
Speaking of the knife, most of you probably know them as I did... the silly band that covered Jose Gonzalez from that awesome sony commercial with all the bouncing balls in San Francisco (watch this in High def for pleasurable enjoyment... haha, i got those last 2 words from the Department of Redunduncy Dept.)
Au contraire! (Excuse my French). The knife in fact is the originators of "Heartbeats" Heartbeats by Rabid Records I can't resist posting my other fav knife song... I think the keyboard melody grooves hard... especially when they hold out certain notes... makes me bob my head! The swedish voice a little weird, but let it grow on you. Also if anyone could teach me how to play this on keyboard, that would be sexy. Like a Pen by Rabid Records
Esau Mwamwaya seems like a good guy. Radioclit seems like a bad name. Together, they are a nice group, some would even called them The Very Best.
Esau's vocals with the production of Radioclit swirls hip-hop, funk pop, and Malawi traditional music. The group has worked with M.I.A. and Ezra Koenig of Vampire Weekend, and now they are doing a show with the latter. If you want to boogie, catch the Very Best with Vampire Weekend, Beach House, and four bottles of wine and thousands of Trader Joe's bags at the Hollywood Bowl on September 26.
I think "The Very Best" is a great name. When googling them, you may come across The Very Best of Dolly Parton or Chumba Wamba (now that's a loaded album!) or the very best Bret Michaels' STDs.
Beach House is good background music while working, unless you are working on making music, then things just get confusing.
I imagine Beach House is perfect for chillaxin' with 1-5 babes by the pool. If that 6th babe comes along, you better get yourself some party music though!
Kick back! Sometimes when life gives you meatloaf, you will do anything for lemonade... speaking through the generations comes a gem that sometimes you can't help but just sit back, grimmace and play super loud on your drum set. Facial expressions not optional!
I mean love comes in many shapes and forms, and sometimes you need a thought box to really get your point across (in case you don't have a motorcycle to crash through buildings), one day you'll be real.
Now this post isn't about love, but the love of music... old and new. Ergo, whilst there is so much gold to catch each other up on, I thought we could share a few favs to get aquainted. And because there is always a WTF moment in any relationship, the British have never lost any sense of irony to our guilty secret love affair with boy bands:
But I digress, I need your help. REALLLY. I would say one of my all time favorite songs is Everlong, and I almost feel ashamed to mention in the same sentence I don't know what the legendary Grohl means when he says "Promise not to stop when I say when." I mean I literally understand the words, figuratively speaking, but your help is without a doubt appreciated.
And in response to hot chip, yes, I want it that way. Or over-easy (see what I did there?). Tell me why.
Who tours without going to Texas?! I mean, it's a pretty big state. However Texas does not allow sodomy, but I don't either (in the state of me), so I cannot hate on them TOO much (but seriously, let the buttsex in Texas).
Well, Muse, who rocked Coachella on Saturday night (please watch the video below, it is fantastic!), are skipping that big state around Austin City Limits time (October 8-10 this year). That leads Consequence of Sound's Austin City Limits Guesstival Wire to perk up... According to HERE, Blues Traveler, Green Day, Muse, and Ponderosa might show up in Austin.
With word that Passion Pit and Metric will be supporting Muse on the tour, hopefully both those bands will come along too, because Texas needs some love too... but, ya know, keep the love coming from the front.
Bonus for watching the whole thing: Around 4 minutes into the video, once the song is over, some guy says "My arms hurt!" It's a nice bonus, but not as cool as FIREWORKS!!! Muse, you rock.
Special thanks to Consequence of Sound (an awesome source for all things music).
Leaving law school early is something many people do (they often call it "dropping out" but don't be picky here). However Ryan McAteer is doing it for much better reasons - he's "entering" the NBA Draft. With experience holding doors for Kansas players, he's surely to get drafted... by the Clippers. Good luck to Ryan, and I love his announcement:
Ladies and Gentlemen,
First and foremost, I’d like to thank everyone for coming here today. To my fellow law students, professors, and Vicki Palmer (who copied or forwarded my undergraduate transcripts over one hundred times), I appreciate all you have done for me over these past two seasons at KU Law. This year has been particularly rough, especially considering my early exit from the Moot Court Competition and career-low statistics in both Secured Transactions and Business Associations II. That being said, I’d like to announce my eligibility for the 2010 NBA Draft this June.
After talking extensively with my family, NBA Scouts, and Dean Agrawal, I feel the time is right for me to take my game to the next level. We went through a lot of the same process last summer, but then again, at that time I had a paid internship and a credit score above 600. Given the current economic climate, looming unemployment rates in large legal markets and another potentially devastating subprime real estate ripple approaching, this is the right decision for me financially as well. The daily per diem and impending shoe contract have simply become too alluring in light of rising out-of-state tuition and an increased Consumer Price Index relative to average national legal wages. With little or no hope for an externship and a 0% success rate with OCI, the NBA Draft is my next best alternative.
Granted, neither BAR/BRI nor Emanuel produce a commercial outline for the game of basketball, but KU Law has prepared me well for The Association. I don’t think I will go very high, in fact I probably won’t be drafted at all, yet I did recently attend the Sports & Entertainment Law Symposium and the skills I picked up that day will surely be welcomed by any NBA franchise. Additionally, I regularly sat but a few feet away from Cole Aldrich in the Burge and often held the door for Sherron Collins while exiting the bookstore. I’ve also personally witnessed the football and basketball teams engage in hand-to-hand combat at both Wescoe and The Ranch. The wealth of knowledge I’ve gained at KU Law will surely come in handy once my transcripts are lost in a fire or disappear strangely in the night, but until then there is a higher likelihood of me playing in the NBA than finding gainful legal employment.
Sincerely,
Ryan McAteer

Good luck to Ryan, I hope they play this song for him on draft day. Jock Jams - Space Jam by angellinaross To those posted songs called "Space Jam" on SoundCloud that give the listener the feeling of floating in space, that's cool, but you really can't compete with JOCK JAMS!

Despite rumors that Kanye West, Dr. Dre, Alicia Keys, and Jesus were going to show up to Jay-Z's Coachella set on Friday, only Beyonce came. That is pretty awesome, but I was really wondering how Dr. Dre and Jesus were going to get along.
Here is them singing everyone's 10th favorite Alphaville song, ya know, with some rap in there too:
Also, Jay-Z is going to be B to the etty, W to the hite's musical guest when they join forces to take the world by storm on Mother's Day eve, May 8th. It will mark the first time that both the musical guest and host are over 90 years old. Just kidding! Betty White is only 88.
Scott Stapp of Creed has released a Florida Marlins fight song, and it is the best worst fight song in a while! Lyrics include: "a diving catch, a stolen base, a perfect game, a triple play". Other fun baseball things! Peanuts! Hot dogs! Spilling beer on a child to catch a foul ball!
Not sure how to catch a fly ball with your arms wide open, but I know that when Creed reunited in 2009, the world became a better place.
Watch the Marlins soar here:
How does this compare to Prince's Vikings Fight Song (released right before they lost in the playoffs this year. Thanks a lot PRINCE!):
Or how about T-Pain's Miami Dolphins Fight Song? Miami has the Dolphins The Greatest Football Team We take the ball from goal to goal Like no one's ever seen We're in the air, we're on the ground We're always in control And when you say Miami You're talking Super Bowl
I'm From Barcelona is a nifty (and humongous) band that makes fun indie poppy music that you can groove around your kitchen to while doing the dishes, because the dishes sure aren't going to do themselves! The band's 2006 album "Let Me Introduce My Friends" was awesome. 2008's "Who Killed Harry Houdini?" (good question!) was also pretty awesome. However their new "27 Songs" album is one of the coolest ideas I have heard since The Magic Bullet. Here's how the band describes the idea: "Inspired by Kiss’ simultaneous release of four solo albums in 1978, “27 Songs from Barcelona” features one solo song for every member in I’m from Barcelona." This video also explains it pretty well:
If you go HERE, you can see a page for each artist containing a nice description and mp3 of all the songs, some equipped with remixes (track 1), videos (track 2), and/or awesome album (or really "song") art.
Some highlights from the song descriptions: Track 2 : "Performed by: Anna Fröderberg (vocals, “sock-shoe drum” and trumpet ), Rikard Ljung (vocals, omnichord, drums, guitar, random flute and maybe tambourine) and Johan MÃ¥rtensson (vocals)" I like when they aren't sure who is playing the tambourine. Track 9: "Performed by: Henrik Olofsson: vocals, guitar, crappy old mandolin and harmonium." The crappy old mandolin is one of my favorite instruments! Check out some of my favorite songs after the jump:
